Barbara Tribe (1913-2000), rare and important bronzed plaster bust of RAAF Flight Lieutenant Charles Leister, signed and dated London 1944 to the back. A number of minor chips and re-patination required otherwise in reasonable to good overall condition, approx 44cm H x 50cm W
A Bronze copy is held in the Australian War Memorial. It was cast in 1986 by John Galizia & Sons.

Flight Lieutenant Charles Leister (Service no. 420472). Leister was born at Bondi, NSW on 7 September 1909. He enrolled with the RAAF on 8 November 1941 training as a Navigator, before his overseas appointment to Canada and the United Kingdom from 18 September 1942 to 22 February 1945. On 15 January 1946, Leister's appointment with the RAAF was terminated on demobilisation.
The sculptor Barbara Tribe recalls this portrait bust as one of her best, finding Leister to be "tall, dignified and so unassuming". The work was exhibited at the Royal Academy London in 1946.
