Maori Hei Tiki, New Zealand. Carved and engraved Greenstone / Pounamu. Finely carved without the use of metal tools, this hei tiki is of a dark olive-green color pounamu or greenstone, the arms and legs are quite muscular but the eyes have lost the inlaid iridescent paua shells, the pierced suspension hole on the top of the head shows considerable wear and there is evidence of tooling marks still visible.
